January 2018 Degustabox Review

Hey everyone! Today’s Mommy Minute is a subscription box review. I just got my first box of the new year, the January Degustabox and I can’t wait to dig in! Degustabox is one of my favorite boxes because I love being able to try new foods and snacks with my family and this is one of the easiest ways ever!

degusta box 2

DegustaboxΒ is a subscription box that sends out a variety of shelf-stable food items, some which are new to the market. You won’t always be able to find these items in stores yet!Β  Degustabox is $19.99 a month, but if you use this link (this is a referral link!), you can save $10.00 off of your first month!

On the back of the description card every month, there are normally recipes featuring some of the products in the box. From my experience, they tend to be on the simpler side and are a great way of trying out new products!

degusta box 4

Angie’s Boomchickpop Sea Salt Popcorn, $1.39 each (get a 6-pack at Target for $4.99)

This is made with popcorn, sea salt and a little bit of sunflower oil. It contains 35 calories a cup. I am literally eating a bag of this as I type this review. This has a nice sweet taste, without being overly greasy or heavy. This is a definite win for me as a nice snack option that won’t kill any “healthy eating” you’ve been doing.

degusta box 6

Monini Original Extra Virgin Olive Oil, $10.99 (I could only find this online at Amazon where it sells for $12.79 + $6.99 shipping).

I personally love getting olive oil in subscription boxes. EVOO tend to be more expensive, but its something my family and I use almost every day in cooking. I’ve never tried this brand before, and I honestly don’t tend to notice a ton of difference in brands of EVOO, but this is a really nice sized bottle and I can’t wait to give it a try with dinner tonight!

degusta box 1

Maya Kaimal Naan Chips, $1.29 each + $1/1 coupon. (I wasn’t able to find the 1.5 oz bag online, but I found a 6 oz bag for $3.99).

These are baked with a whole grain flour, are vegan and non-GMO. I am a fan of hummus and my kids are fans of crackers in any shape and size. I think I’m going to toss these into my purse for a healthy snack on the go! These are also sea salt flavored, which I can’t complain about. Sea salt is just naturally delicious. And the $1/1 coupon is valid for any of the Maya Kaimal snacks and sauces so I might try out one of their sauces for dinnertime here in the near future. I love the options!

degustabox 10

Loacker Chocolate Classic White, $1.99

This is a fine white chocolate with a core of melting milk cream and light, crispy wafers. Loacker is a brand that I see quite frequently in my Degustabox, but I’m not complaining. They send the tastiest little desserts ever! This bar is no exception. It’s about the size of a Kit-Kat. Mine was a little melty, but that doesn’t make a big difference to me. The taste is great all the same!

Cello Whisps Cheddar Cheese Crisps, $3.99

These are made from 100% true cheese and are an excellent source of calcium and protein. My kids and I are huge cheese fans and these are great crunchy little pieces, like natural Cheeze-Its. These can be a bit bitter the first time tasting them, but if you’re a cheese lover like me, you’ll fall in love with these little guys too!

degusta box 8

Crown Maple Sugar, $1.00 each. (I couldn’t locate this size on their website, but you can buy a 20-pack of these pouches for $9.95.

These are rich in natural antioxidants and provide a healthy alternative to granulated sweeteners. The information card says these are ideal for use in coffee, tea, baked goods and even cocktails. I will admit I haven’t tried these yet, but I might hand these over to Kylor to experiment with in the cocktail department. That sounds rather interesting to me and who doesn’t love some nice maple sugar, right?

Go Organically Fruit Snacks, Fruit Medley, $3.99.

These are a USDA-certified organic fruit snack made with real fruit. They are GMO-free, gluten free and have no preservatives. These are a repeat item, we’ve gotten these in our Degustabox before, but my kids love these and I love having healthy snacks on hand, so I can’t complain about that. I do wish Degustabox had less repeat brands and products, but at least the repeats are our favorites. But, these have a great taste and my kids get excited every time a new box shows up!

degusta box 9

Wasa Thins Flatbread in Rosemary & Sea Salt, $3.19

These have 9 grams of whole grain and 70 calories per serving, so they are great if you’re looking for a healthy cracker. I’m not the biggest fan of rosemary, so I personally will be passing these on to the rest of my family. I have gotten some of these thins before in a Degustabox and they were delicious with some sliced cheese as a mid-afternoon snack. I just can’t quite handle the rosemary flavoring at the moment (Thanks, baby!).

Explore Cuisine Organic Edamame Spaghetti, $4.99

This spaghetti has 24g of protein and it’s gluten free, kosher and non-GMO. I love healthier pastas like this because we eat pasta on a very regular basis in this house! My husband gets a bit sketchy when I try to make meals using whole-grain or bean-based pastas, so I probably won’t tell him what I’m using until after he tastes it. Either way, I can’t wait to give this a try. I love being exposed to healthier alternatives of a pantry staple!

degusta box 7

Dole Coconut Water Fruit Bowls – Pineapple & Mandarin Orange, $2.79

My kids love these little fruit cups! And I think it’s wonderful that Dole now makes fruit cups in coconut water. I think pineapple and mandarin orange is a great choice to sweeten with coconut water and I love how quickly my kids scarf these down! These are another great pantry staple that I will never turn down!

FINAL THOUGHTS:

All in all, I’m very pleased with the box this month. I paid $19.99 and received $48.08 in food products and pantry staples that my family will actually use! I got some repeats that I already know my family loves and I also got a few new things that I can’t wait to try or had a blast trying out with my kids. I think this a great box if value isn’t a huge deal to you, but you like trying out new food items. This is one of my favorite food boxes simply due to the amount of newer products we get and the amount of full-size products we get.

Do you get the Degustabox? What are your thoughts on the first box of the year?
