Hey everyone! Today’s Mommy Minute is going to be The Homemaker Tag! I’m a little late to the game with this tag, but it looks like so much and these are a great way for you to get to know me a little better!
1. Have you ever had anyone say anything negative to you about staying at home/ working from home?
Oh, absolutely! I’ve heard everything and it’s something that literally everyone I know (and some people I don’t) have an opinion on. It’s baffling to me how our way of thinking has changed and how people now take an issue with this, even though it’s none of their business. Most of the comments we hear are made to my husband in particular, but I do get some from time to time.
2. What is your favorite/least favorite part of staying home(or working from home)?
My favorite part is getting to spend so much quality time with my kids. I get to play with them and teach them things and it’s the best job in the entire world. I also really enjoy cleaning and organizing, and staying at home allows me a lot more time to do these things. My kids love pitching in and helping, so that’s always a plus!
My least favorite part would be never having a day off, but that’s more of a parent thing! Even if I worked outside of the home, that wouldn’t change the kids needs or the household needs.
3. What is your favorite/least favorite chore?
My favorite chore would either be organizing (if that counts) or vacuuming. I also enjoy wiping the counters.
My least favorite chore is definitely without a doubt the dishes. I loathe the dishes. I don’t mind them if everything is rinsed immediately so that no food gets stuck on, but with three kids, that doesn’t always happen. The second there is dried on food, I just can’t even. Blech.
4. What time do you wake up/ go to bed?
My husband and I normally go to bed and wake up with each other. We normally go to bed between 2-3 AM and we wake up between 7-9 AM. No joke, that’s our routine. It does change sometimes. If we are really tired, we will go to bed earlier. If all of the kids magically decide to sleep in, we will to (if my husband doesn’t have to work early), but that’s our normal day-to-day schedule.
5. Do you put anything on in the background while you clean/work/cook (tv, radio, podcast, etc.)
It really depends on if the kids are awake. If they are, I normally have the TV on for background noise. Plus, if they decide they don’t want to help me with whatever project or chore I’m currently working on, they can go watch some Daniel Tiger or play together. If they are napping or in bed, I normally listen to music on my phone.
6. Do you get dressed most days or stay in PJs?
I get dressed and do my hair/makeup every single day. I normally do it during naptime, so it isn’t until 1 PM, but I always make a point to do it. I feel much more refreshed and human and I tend to be way more productive. My daily schedule has me doing the cleaning and projects after naptime anyways, so it really works well for me.
7. How often do you do your hair and makeup?
Every single day!
8. What is your “trouble zone” or area in your home that needs the most help?
Definitely the kitchen or the living room. It’s where we spend most of our time: cooking and playing, so both spots get overrun with toys and dishes. I have to clean those two rooms every day to keep up on the mess.
9. How often do you find yourself getting distracted?
With the kids, I get distracted all the time because someone always needs something. But, they’re very good with helping and LOVE project days and helping out with everything, so it’s not too bad.
10. Do you enjoy staying home or do you miss going to a job everyday?
I love staying home. I couldn’t imagine not being with my kids. I have nothing against mothers who prefer to work (my own mom couldn’t stand being at home and went back to work early from her maternity leave because she was so bored). This has always been my dream job and luckily for me, it made financial sense for our family.
11. What is your “never ending” chore?
Either the dishes or the toys everywhere! Also, the dog hair. We have four dogs and they shed like craaaaazy. It’s ridiculously hard to keep up with all the hair everywhere.
12. What is your favorite way to relax or have “me” time?
My favorite way is making videos or blogging! It’s a great way to take a Mommy Minute, a minute just for myself.
13. How often does your husband/significant other chip in?
My husband is an amazing Godsend. He helps out every single second he gets. He is great with the kids and loves tucking them in at night. If I had a rough day and wasn’t able to get everything on my list done, he pitches in immediately to help me get it all finished.
14. (If you have kids) When do you find time to do chores?
I do chores normally during naptime, after naptime and after the kids go to bed. They love helping me, like I mentioned earlier so I normally don’t have an issue getting my tasks done.
15. How do you balance being a homemaker and creating Youtube content?
It’s hard, videos are much more time consuming then a blog post. My husband is a huge help though. He’ll spend time with Ramsey while I edit videos after the other kids go to bed. When I’m filming, he will help with the camera or occupying the kids so I can get it done.
16. What is your favorite room in your home and why?
My favorite room is either my laundry room because it’s the most luxe laundry room I’ve ever had and my husband custom installed a marble countertop in it for me, or my office because it’s just my space.
17. What is your least favorite room in your home and why?
My least favorite room is the dogs room and that’s just because it’s always a mess. Even after a 6-hour deep clean, the next morning it just seems filthy again!
18. Do you feel your home reflects your personal style? Why/why not?
Kind of. My personal style is kind of all over the place and my husband likes a lot of neutral colors like beige and gray. I think we have done a good job of combining our tastes into a more subdued look with small pops of color, so I’m happy with how we are represented in our home.
19. What does your home smell like?
It really depends on what fragrance products we are using at the time. We switch between candles, tart warmers, air sprays and essential oil diffusers. We change scents up all the time, so it’s always different.
20. What is your strong point and weak spot when it comes to homemaking?
My strong point is definitely organizing. My weak spot is the dust and dog hair. We have a larger house and it’s really hard to keep up with dust and dog hair everywhere.
