5 Disappointing Subscription Box Products

Hey everyone! I thought I would do something a bit different today and share some of the products that I have received from Subscription Boxes that didn’t really excite me. Now, full disclaimer here: There’s nothing wrong with these products. They aren’t bad, they just aren’t for me so take my opinions with a grain of salt. This is a mix of products from multiple categories that I just didn’t find useful in my life.

First up is the Margot Elena Handwoven Natural Fiber Tassel Scarf ($32.00) from the Spring 2018 Margot Elena Discovery Box. I believe this is an exclusive to the box, because I can’t find it online at all.

This is a really pretty scarf, I just don’t tend to wear a lot of scarves. Or any, for that matter. I love the tassel detailing, I’m just not a scarf person so any scarves that I get in subscription boxes are kind of useless to me. I normally give them to my kids to play with or swap them.

Next up is this Sole Society SS160-Hat ($26.95) from the Summer 2017 Rachel Zoe Box Of Style.

This is a really cute Summertime hat and I like it just like I liked the scarf from above. Once again though, I’m not a hat type of person. I debated keeping this to wear to the pool or beach, but I don’t go swimming or to the beach enough, and even if I did, this really isn’t what I would consider “my style”. I really want to be the kind of person to wear cute hats like this, but I’m just not.

Next up is this set of W&P Design Do Something Dice ($12.00) from the Spring 2018 Happy Rebel Box.

These would be perfect for Kylor and I if we traveled a lot. We never travel. Well, every great once in a while, but definitely not enough to need dice to help us decide what to do. I totally get that there are people that would love something like this, and I think they would work great in specific situations. For me personally, they were a bust simply because I have no actual use for them.

The next product I have is the ROC Retinol Correxion MAX Daily Hydration Creme ($23.51) from the Allure Beauty Thrills box. Allure Beauty Thrills box is a seasonal box that is only available as a pre-order or one-time purchase during set time frames.

I’ve heard amazing things about this! It seems to be a universally loved product. However, it contains retinol. Retinol is an ingredient that you aren’t supposed to use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Because this has an expiration date, I won’t be able to use it by the time I’m done breastfeeding, so this is just kind of a wasted product for me. I do plan on trying it one day though!

The last product I’m going to share today is the Manna Kadar Glo Illuminator ($29.00) from like, every subscription box ever. This has been featured in several different subscription boxes ranging from beauty boxes to mom & baby boxes.

Don’t get me wrong, this is actually a beautiful highlight. My only issue with this is that this is like, the seventh tube that I’ve gotten of this exact product. Even if this was my holy grail highlight, that’s too much of one product for me. I feel like this was a really over-saturated product in the sub box market and I just don’t ever want to see another tube of this. It’s become too much of a good thing and I’m just sick of getting this.

  1. Do you think freezing the retinol would mess up the texture? It might extend the shelf life if it doesn’t ruin it, haha.

    1. I didn’t think about freezing it. I’d have to do some research to see. But that’s a great idea, thank you!
