Ah, another month, another group of regrettable purchases. I will add a disclaimer before (just like last time): just because I don’t like these products, it doesn’t necessarily mean that they are bad products. I know some of these are insanely popular. Everyone has different things that they are looking for in beauty products, and your wants & needs might not match up with mine. (and spoiler alert, some of these aren’t even based on performance). So take my opinions with a grain of salt, and let me know if you have had a different experience with any of these!
I don’t have as many this time, which is progress! (maybe?) I do have mainly skincare this time, which is odd because I generally have really good luck with skincare.
But first is makeup! These are the Wet N Wild ColorIcon Brow Shaper ($1.93). This is sold out pretty much everywhere. I believe it’s been discontinued. I have four (!) of these. I actually got these on clearance from Walmart for like, $0.25 each. So, I figured I’d stock up and have a little stash of these. And then I tried them. It’s a wax stick, meant for holding your eyebrows in place. I could not get these to work. As soon as I touched my eyebrow, the wax would like, evaporate and smush down, so I had to sharpen it three times to haphazardly smear some wax on my brows. No thanks. ELF does it much better for the same price point.
Let’s shake it up with some skincare!
We have here the Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid Treatment ($105.00 for the full size). Now, I know – Sunday Riley? Hear me out though. I’m not sure if it’s just this sample that I have or if it’s the actual product but this shit stinks. Literally. Everytime I put it on, I was searching everywhere for a rogue dirty diaper and after like, 4 days I finally realized it was the crap I was putting on my face. Now, I’ve had amazing luck with Sunday Riley before. I would definitely be willing to give them the benefit of the doubt and try this out again. This sample however, I can’t stomach anymore.
Next up, we’ve got the LUE by Jean Seo Balance Hydrating & Calming Serum ($15.00). I got this as part of an Ipsy Shopper deal along with an acne treatment. I LOVE the acne treatment. So good. This was odd, though. I tried it for almost two weeks and I kept having the same issue. This didn’t sink into my skin at all. It just kind of smeared around and sat on top of my skin, making my face a slick mess. I really wanted to like it, because I genuinely enjoy the acne treatment, but I can’t get this to work for my skin type.
Here’s a new one: a tool. This is the Jersey Shore Cosmetics My Lash Secret Eyelash Curler ($35.00). I got this in a subscription box, and it was perfect timing! Or not. I ended up ordering a Revlon Eyelash Curler from Amazon to replace this one. This is a very stiff eyelash curler, so it’s not the most comfortable to hold, but it also is weird on the lashes. It didn’t curl my lashes, instead it just kind of clamped on and bent them. The pad is super stiff and hard and I just couldn’t get a nice curl from these.
And last but not least, we have a product that’s actually relatively new to my collection. This is the Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask ($16.99 for the full size). I just got this as part of a Gift with Purchase from Ulta and I was so stoked! I love clay masks! So, I went to use it and the whole bottle was liquid. Like, it went everywhere. I lost half the tube and the other half just slid off my face. Definitely not what I’ve come to expect from clay masks. Now, is it possible that this mask melted in the AZ heat on its way to my door? I honestly don’t know. I’d like to assume so. Either way though, I definitely regret gwping this one.
Have you ever tried any of these products? What products have you regretted buying recently?
