When you buy a new piece of furniture, you rely on guesswork at least a little. If you’re buying online, you’re going to need to guess how that piece looks, and how it will fit. Even if you’re buying in a store, you have to guess how that piece will look in your living room. And, until it arrives, you’ll have no way of knowing how your guesses have gone.
Often, things work out regardless. Even if that sofa isn’t how you’d pictured, you’ll find a way to make it work. That table might be larger than you thought, but there’s still ample space for it. But, what happens when your furniture arrives, and it’s a total disaster? You would then face expensive returns and a load of hassle. Not to mention that you’d have to wait even longer to get the furniture you need. That’s why we’re going to look at some of the main delivery disasters, and how to avoid them.
It doesn’t fit
Issues of furniture not fitting are the most common. Even if you saw that cabinet in the shop, you may not have realized how large it was. Or, perhaps you ordered online and didn’t notice how out of proportion the pictures were. We’re especially guilty of doing this when we move into a new home, and have yet to learn what can fit where. Either way, you end up having to store that new piece in the middle of the room until further notice. Luckily, there’s an easy enough solution. You should, of course, take measurements before buying. And, ALWAYS check them against those furniture dimensions.
It’s nothing like the picture
You know when you find the perfect looking furniture online? The moment you set eyes on it, you know this is the piece for you. Then, it arrives, and it looks nothing like you expected. To some extent, this is a risk of online buying, but it’s one you can work around. All you need to do is read reviews. These will prepare you for what to expect, and may even include customer pictures. If you’re looking to buy a sofa, reading something like these Sofamania reviews is essential. If you’re looking for a new table, scroll through at least a few pages of reviews. And, whatever you do, don’t ignore what those customers have to say! Bad reviews probably = bad product.
The colors are all wrong
Whether you buy online or in store, it’s possible the colors of your new piece will be nothing like the colors at home. You may have forgotten the exact tones of your living room. Or, those online snaps might have made the coloring look different. Taking color swatches shopping with you can help you overcome this. Online, you should make sure to look at various photos online. If color matching really matters, you may be best avoiding online purchases altogether. Only then can you make sure your cerulean curtains are exactly as they should be.
